Good mastery of CFD applications will support the quality of the simulation results.
In a study, when we observe a physical phenomenon using various software, it will result in a more comprehensive and precise analysis. Moreover, in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, we conducted a study focusing on fluid computing application, employing an innovation named Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Mechanical Engineering Department provides its students with knowledge emphasizing the fields of Energy Conversion, Design, Production, and Manufacturing Processes. Moreover, it also provides students basic knowledge of Operational and Managerial Management of Industries. Meanwhile, the Naval Architecture Program provides its students with knowledge emphasizing the fields of vessel design, sailing vessel production process, sailing vessel repair activities, vessel machine installation, and maritime regulations. Moreover, it also provides students with basic knowledge of shipyard management.
The importance of CFD is to support the students in their learning and lecturing process. The CFD method allows us to make a prediction or to come up with solutions to various problems in complex fluid mechanics by employing a numerical method based on the finite volume method. We can take advantage of the CFD innovation to visualize many physical phenomena.
It’s vital to know technical rules when using the CFD method for students, so they can understand and master the technical rules when conducting a study. Although the CFD software is developed and sophisticated continuously, the students’ ability to use it plays an essential role in obtaining the optimal result. The CFD’s users must sufficiently understand how to determine which parameters to use in a simulation. Improper data input may result in incorrect data output.
Currently, the CFD is being implemented in a study of infant incubator computation. The CFD serves to determine the cabin temperature before the incubator is produced. Several supporting factors such as adequate hardware and software have to be considered so that it can work well.
